Lou Miami - Rituals 6-song EP (Throbbing Lobster #10)
The late Lou Miami was a one-of-a-kind talent who never quite translated the live electricity onto vinyl. "Ghosts," co-written by Lou and Thalia Zedek [Dangerous Birds, Uzi, Codeine] was a near hit (the video even made MTV), and Lou's No Wave salute to "Mack the Knife" was just glorious -insane guitar by Chris Spedding- but the tour never came together and commercial radio support fizzled. The voodoo theme was definitely a mistake. (Creepy fetishes on the cover, voodoo-doll cut-outs on the planned insert, which we never did because...) The courier who was taking the masters from the lab in New York City to the pressing plant got stabbed and bled all over the lacquers for this and the O Positive EP. (How could anyone make this up?) The courier survived; Lou died of a heart attack in the mid-90s. R.I.P.
(There's a great ragged YouTube live performance
from 1981 with John Hovorka on guitar -though the sound/style is quite different from the 12"s)
